20-20 Reflection

By Brad L Hodges

Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you. Psalm 37:5 NLT

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Hindsight is truly 20-20, as the saying goes. It can mean many things in a lifetime. It can be used for many purposes. We can use it to learn from our past mistakes, embrace it as a roadmap to guide us through our future plans or for me personally, to reflect back, marvel and praise my God for the miracles He has done along the timeline of my life.

I love looking back and seeing how God wove certain situations, trials and people into the fabric of my life to accomplish His will for it. Although it would be nice to sometimes have 20-20 foresight to help make life changing decisions, I think I prefer the historical and concrete proof of God working in my life in 20-20 hindsight.

Casting your entire future into the lake of God’s master plan takes complete trust in Him. By nature mankind wants to control their own destiny. We always think we know best for our lives. In the secular world, the world of those who have not accepted Jesus as The Lord of their lives, this is the only way they know how to row the lifeboat.

For those who put their complete trust in Jesus, He is the Coxswain, the Captain, of their lifeboat. They rely on the ability of Jesus to see the infinite past and infinite future of every situation in their lives and fully trust in Him to guide them through the lake of God’s Master Plan.

God knows the plan he has for each one of us but it can only be executed if we give our lives to Him and trust He will make it happen for our best interest and His glory.

By doing this we do not need to see the future, for it is taken care of. What we get to often do is reflect in 20-20 vision on the marvel of the journey that has unfolded and in many cases see the reasons, miracles and results of the Master Plan of God for our lives.

As the old hymn goes; trust and obey, for there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.
