No Change

Malachi 3:6 (NIV)
6 “I the Lord do not change…”

Seasons change, minds change, goals change, moods change, people change, hopes change, relationships change, fortunes change, luck changes, the weather changes, products change.

Yet it sometimes seems, as Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr, French journalist, critic and novelist (November 24, 1808 – September 29, 1890) said; “The more things change the more they remain the same.”

Change is around us constantly. It is an omnipotent force of its own and something over which we have little to no control.

Change can detour us, motivate us, destroy us, delay us, hurt us, surprise us, stop us dead in our tracks, frighten us, fuel us. We can thrive on it, hate it, thank it or even love it.

Many people become so locked into routine and stability that change can turn their world upside down when, not if, it occurs. Others flourish on change so much that it can become an addiction and they will actually go out if their way to evoke it.

In all its forms of emotions, actions and results change will never cease to exist.

Without change life can become mundane, boring and stale. With change life ignites and can become extraordinary, fascinating and fresh.

We relish change or dread it. But when is there a time and a place where we want and seek no change?

Because change is such a fluid state it often creates upheaval in our spirit that can make us feel like we are in the very eye of a hurricane. When it hits us deeply, personally and at a gut level so that we don’t know if we are coming or going we want to seek stability and peace.

The core place where change can hurt the most is in our soul when we are lost like sheep without a Shepard. Nothing says turmoil more than when one is caught up in addiction, hate, lies, fear, dread, regret or immorality. The changes that accompany these emotions or states are the worst kind of changes humans can experience.

Fortunately there is one force that never changes, one that we can always depend on for peace, security, harmony, shelter from evil, a harbinger of good things to come and most importantly love, and that is God.

God never changes and “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8 ESV).

What a wonderful rock we can build our lives on, a garden of peace and tranquility we can go to anytime change is getting the best of us or turning our lives upside down.

When we want no change God does not change. His principles, word and love are forever a beacon for our lost souls to break free and find comfort and cohesion in our lives.

The next time change comes calling and it is not good or not derived from God for your own good and His glory, answer it with a transfer to YHWH who does not change.
