Truth Serum

John 8:31-32
…Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

According to Wikipedia: “A “truth serum” is a colloquial name for any of a range of psychoactive medications used to obtain information from subjects who are unable or unwilling to provide it otherwise.”

The famed chemical sodium Pentothal, which is commonly known as truth serum, has been a mainstay of spy flicks for decades. In real life, scientists have tested it on spies, psychiatric patients, pregnant women, and suspected criminals. They all talked, but did they say something meaningful? Or was it just what the people around them wanted to hear? (Source: io9 website article 4/19/12 by Esther Inglis-Arkell:http://io9.com/5902559/what-truths-does-truth-serum-actually-reveal)

Getting the elusive truth out of people, events or history has been pursued since the beginning of the recorded history of mankind.

Covering up the truth ranges from conspiracy theories such as the assassination of President Robert F Kennedy or the Roswell, NM alien crash story of 1947, to telling “little white lies” or using blatant subterfuge to cover up minor or major personal indiscretions and deception.

Sometimes obsessive acts or pursuits are employed in the interest of getting to the truth including hiring private detectives to monitor the activities of those suspected of covering up the facts. It seems finding out the truth will set one free from the bonds of the unknown.

As always the Bible has some things to say about not only telling the truth but finding the truth:

Zechariah 8:16 ESV
These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace;

Proverbs 12:19 ESV
Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

Psalm 5:6 ESV
You destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

Ephesians 4:15 ESV
Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,

2 Timothy 2:15 ESV
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

John 8:44 ESV
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Truth, as is shown in the Bible, is a sacred thing to God and His principles. But there is one great truth that affects all of mankind and it is the key to finding eternal life and truly setting one free from the bonds of mankind’s deceit and lies.

It is the answer to all questions and inquires because it is the only real truth that matters when the things of this earth have passed away and one is left alone to confront the life they have led. It is the truth that completely sets you free:

John 14:6 ESV
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

For this truth no serum is necessary. For if you hold to the teachings of Christ and accept Him as your personal savior you will be boldly living the truth as His disciples, void of the need for any coverup, deceit or lies.

Jesus is truly the only truth you need.
