The Look Of Love

Mark 10:21
21 Jesus looked at him and loved him.

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”
– Statue of Liberty

Sometimes we all feel like the famous quote on the Statue of Liberty in one way or the other don’t we? We are tired of the battle called life, we have financial problems, we are oppressed in some way by circumstances we can’t control such as family issues or friend struggles and wish to break free and gain relief for our troubled souls. We can even feel homeless within a home.

Although life holds many wondrous moments it certainly isn’t a carnival.

We all want to be loved, cared for, especially acknowledged, appreciated and honored for who we are. Most of us do have some in our lives we can trust to provide love and security, although you may be able to only count them on one hand. But let’s face it, even those are subject to the same emotions and influences of humanity as we are and albeit they remain loyal to us among the flux of their own human struggles, the ebb and flow renders less than dependable moments at times doesn’t it?

The good news, if we have found salvation by accepting the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, is that it brings with it someone who will always and unconditionally, void of the superficial, erratic and often unpredictable characteristics of humans, look at us and love us completely. That person is Jesus, the rock we can stand on consistently:

Psalm 18:2 (NIV)
2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

If you truly want to receive the lasting and soul satisfying look of love, you only need stare into the eyes of Jesus.
