The Potter And The Clay

By Brad L Hodges

Psalm 33:6-19 (NIV)

6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.

7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses.

8 Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him.

9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.

10 The Lord foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.

11 But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.

12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance.

13 From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind;

14 from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth—

15 he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.

16 No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength.

17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.

18 But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,

19 to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.

With all the turmoil that is occurring in the world today one can easily become discouraged and cynical. Nations are bickering on the world stage, our political system in America seems a shambles, and God is under attack in our public arena’s.

At the hands of a faction that seems completely determined to undermine and destroy morality in our country the unborn continue to be murdered, God’s design of marriage destroyed, and our military system dismantled in the name of ‘equality.’

In other parts of our world women continue to be treated like animals, countries once built on the principals of God are acquiescing to Sharia law and rogue nations conspire to annihilate democracy and the freedom it represents.

A mere mortal believer is tempted to simply curl up in a ball and pray for the return of The King to once and for all right the wrongs of Satan’s game plan to destroy the world he was given dominion of.

But despite all the ills in our country and the world, God is still in complete control and the petty schemes of humans is insignificant in the face of His mighty power.

God sees all (vs.13-15) in the hearts of mankind. He knows the evil and the good in their hearts and minds. God is not impressed by the nugatory powers of world leaders (v.16) and they are ultimately not in control of anything He decides to circumvent (v.10).

Our nation and our world has lost its way somewhere along the timeline of our age. There may still be hope if enough people fear The Lord and turn back to Him (vs. 12,18) but if the majority of the hearts of mankind become hardened and turn from Him the reckoning will come quickly;

1 Corinthians 15:52 ESV

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

And His justice will be administered to those who have turned away and not accepted the salvation of Jesus;

Revelation 19:12-16 ESV

His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

Make no mistake The Master of the Universe is in complete control and the machinations of humanity are but nothing when the line of preponderant repudiation has been crossed.

God is the supreme potter and humanity but the clay.
