Have You Seen God?

Colossians 1:15
15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

Faith is the foundation for belief in the world of the Christian. It is seeing the unseen by knowing it is there.

Often it takes a bit of imagination to bring the images of our faith into reality, but history, in God’s Word the Bible, reveals that there were those in the timeline of the world who actually saw God in human flesh and bone in the image of Jesus.

For modern mankind removed some 1,981 years since the death and subsequent resurrection of Jesus, it takes a great deal of imagination to visualize what it would be like to have the God of the universe walking among us in human form today.

Knowing that the base nature of mankind is still just as broken and sinful now as it was 1,981 years ago I doubt the collective reaction of humanity toward Christ would be any different though, even if he were walking among us now. In fact chances are it would be exponentially more skeptical than ever before in human history due to modern technology and resulting “enlightenment.”

But what would it be like to “see” God?

If I allow my rather vivid imagination to run I can see the God the Bible describes as a loving, caring person but with little patience for organized religion and the politics of man. He cared deeply for the “human condition” but little for manufactured beliefs.

I can identify with Jesus on more than my spiritual level that has accepted him as my savior and will eventually spend eternity with him. I have little patience with the political arena and the pettiness and self-absorption of a great deal of humans I encounter, including myself at times. But I care for people and the condition of mankind which seems to be deteriorating at an alarming rate.

My earthly identification, of course, can only be based on my mortal understanding and assimilation of the human characteristics of Jesus as written about in the historical biblical account of his time on earth.

As for the divine side, other than the divine natures of grace, love and righteousness, that have been bestowed on me as a believer, I have no clue what that part of God truly is. God tells us as much;

Isaiah 55:8
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.

Still I envy those who actually saw Jesus, and understood who he was and what it meant in real-time; that he was the very image of God in their midst.

Given the fact God is no longer walking earth as a human we are left with faith as our proof of his existence. And faith is actually a simple equation; any intelligent human being, provided they are a true believer, can bring the historical facts of God walking on earth in the image of Jesus together with the undeniable transformation they experienced at the moment they accepted Jesus as their personal savior and invited him into their heart, and see God.

If you are a believer you have seen God, for Jesus is the image of God, and we know historically what he was like as a human and what he has done for us personally to unite our humanity with his humanity and our spirit with his divinity.

Humans are innately connected to God by their creation in his image (Genesis 1:27). So if you are reading this and are not a believer, you feel, deep down in your inner being, there is a greater power than yourself. You may have a desire and inquisitiveness to know what that is, to “see” it manifested into something you can comprehend.

If you have an open mind and an open heart and a sincere desire to bring your awareness of a greater power into a reality you can grasp, take the time to read the New Testament of the Bible and get to know the historical account of the fully human and fully divine image of God in the man Jesus.

Once you can see God in Jesus, ask him through faith brought forth by the historical facts, to complete your quest and transform you spiritually as a new being, a person freed of doubt, sin and the unknown and given eternal life after death on earth through his grace.

You have seen God at that moment.
