Celebrity Status

© By Brad L Hodges

Matthew 1:21-22 (NIV)

21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”[d] (which means “God with us”).

d. Isaiah 7:14 (NIV)
14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Unless perhaps one is born into royalty such as the royal line of Great Britain, you do not come into this world as a celebrity. With the exception of royal line births every individual that becomes famous and therefore receives the designation of “celebrity” was born as an ordinary human being and through luck, talent or grooming became well-known enough to get the attention of a majority of other human beings and granted “celebrity status.”

Royal births usually receive instant celebrity status because a long lineage of other royal’s has established the predestined prestige upon subsequent luminaries.

As an example as far as human history and royal celebrity lines go, Japan’s Yamato dynasty traces its origins back to 660, making it the oldest continuous hereditary monarchy in the world (source: The Washington Post: World Views; article titled “Meet the world’s other 25 royal families” by Caitlin Dewey and Max Fisher, July 22, 2013, link: http://wapo.st/1r3oete).

In the context of human time, the earth and thus the seed of humanity can be traced back to “only” 1600 AM (anno mundi = ‘year of the world’) to today, which we would argue is about 6000 AM (source: article titled How does the Bible teach 6,000 years? by Lita Cosner, and a fascinating history of the earths’ age can be found at Creation.com [Creation Ministries International]; link:http://creation.com/6000-years).

However as usual in the eternal, infinite, omnipotent history of God compared to the ephemeral, finite, impotent biography of man, royal and celebrity status pale miserably when it comes down to humanities accomplishments and time.

God is the ultimate celebrity and His royal line beginning and ending in Jesus Christ alone, has existed for all eternity.

People seem so mesmerized by royal and common celebrities who are here today and gone tomorrow in the fleeting timeline of humanity. They often hang on every word, act or cause celebrities undertake. It often takes on a form of worship of what amounts to nothing more than an equal human being as relates to God’s creation and view of mankind. In other words we are all the same at the root of humanity.

While royal human lines such as the Yamato dynasty mentioned above may endure for what amounts to a long time in human terms, the royal line and celebrity status of Jesus Christ has always existed in perpetuity.

While the humble human birth of Jesus Christ took place only about 2,000 years ago, his birth in the human count of time was prophesied approximately 681 BC in Isaiah 7:14, some 500 years before he was born. Talk about advanced publicity for a celebrity birth, royal or common.

But Jesus Christ has actually existed forever and his celebrity status originates from God in the Holy Trinity; the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

If any celebrity birth deserves the full attention of mankind it is the celebrity birth and divine royal line of Jesus. While millions of people celebrate the birth of Christ at Christmas and from a Christian standpoint He is the ultimate celebrity, millions more have never known him and choose instead to be entranced by the pithy magnetism of human celebrities that fades in most cases over time like any other passing fancy. Sure many common and royal humans make lasting and historical impressions, but none have the power to fundamentally transform us into eternal beings as Jesus Christ does if we accept him as our personal savior.

That is the ultimate celebrity status; to be someone who saves humanity from sin and broken fellowship with God and can give you eternal life.

Why not get to know the ultimate celebrity of Jesus Christ today and let him autograph his signature of eternity on your soul?
