Share Time

© By Brad L Hodges

Do you remember when you were in kindergarten and your teacher had ‘share time?’

Oh how excited you were to bring something you treasured dearly to share with your fellow bright-eyed classmates!

Undoubtedly you spent kid-glorious-moments searching through your treasure trove to find just the right toy car, truck or doll, favorite game, pet turtle, fish or frog to share, and inevitably your Mom, Dad, or both had to veto the choice of the family dog, cat or even pony, if you were lucky enough to have one.

As adults, sharing possessions, photos or life moments with your friends and family is exciting and gratifying. An entire industry has sprung up surrounding sharing in social media websites like Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr and Instagram.

We are proud to share these vestiges of our passing lives with others, openly and freely, unashamed to put ourselves out there and declare who we are.

But if we are believers in God are we as excited and openly willing to share the glory and grace He has shared with us?

God does not hesitate to have share time with His children and He clicks the share button of His blessings daily with us. One only need look around at the beauty of nature in all its magnificence and splendor to see God’s Timeline around us.

God made the ultimate share when He sent His son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. If ever there was something to share, it is the salvation bestowed upon us when we accept that sacrifice.

When it comes to sharing God with their friends and family though, many believers become very uncomfortable and shrink at the thought. They fear being politically incorrect or offending someone who may not ‘share’ the same beliefs.

We are told to share God with others as believers:

Matthew 28:19 (NIV)
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Mark 16:15 (NIV)
15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

Psalm 96: (NIV)
3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

But this is not the same as sharing a photo of our meal at our favorite restaurant or pictures of our travels or pets, or a funny joke, quote or location is it?

If we are willing to share the other moments of our lives so freely why are so many believers unwilling to share the greatest moments of our lives, those spent with God?

We certainly have much to share when it comes to those moments and the greatness of our God:

Psalm 145:3-13 (NIV)
3 Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
4 One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
5 They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
6 They tell of the power of your awesome works—
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
7 They celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness.
8 The Lord is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and rich in love.
9 The Lord is good to all;
he has compassion on all he has made.
10 All your works praise you, Lord;
your faithful people extol you.
11 They tell of the glory of your kingdom
and speak of your might,
12 so that all people may know of your mighty acts
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.

The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.

And finally, if one as a believer is ashamed to share their walk with God it has consequences:

Luke 9:26 (NIV)
26 Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

But it should never come down to this consequence if you are excited and proud to share the grace and glory that God has bestowed upon you, freely and openly with others, should it?

Maybe it’s time to re-prioritize your sharing, if you are not already including your walk with God as part of the Timeline of your life.

One does not gave to be a ‘Bible thumper’ to include the blessings and grace that God has given you among the other shares of your life. Simply take the time each day to acknowledge the blessings and greatness of our great God and share them with others when the opportunity presents itself.
