Where Do You Live?

By Brad L Hodges

Psalm 23:6
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

“I say, if everybody in this house lives where it’s God first, friends and family second and you third, we won’t ever have an argument.”
Jeff Foxworthy

Joshua 24:15 (NIV)
15 “…But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Home is a central part of nearly everyone’s life. It is a place of sanctuary, shelter from the elements, where one can ‘let their guard down,’ and a venue where memories are made.

While home in reality is generally a physical, fixed location made up of building materials such as wood, concrete, bricks, nails and stucco, at least initially, it is what we humans fill it with that makes it truly home.

A building is an inanimate object, void of its own human emotion, animation or occasion. Humans inhabiting the building fill it with life and make it a home.

For the fortunate, home becomes a place of lasting, warm memories of family, friends, events and a positive, profound, life timeline.

For those unfortunate it can represent a place of abuse, negative connotation and bitter recollections.

God created humans with His own basic attributes; righteousness, peace, love and consideration for others.

In the broken state of humanity those attributes are often discarded and void in our own consciences, let alone our homes.

If we are truly believers in Jesus Christ, we not only retain our inheritance of His Divine attributes, but we reflect it in everything we do and have, including our homes.

Bringing Jesus Christ into our homes and making him The Lord over our dwelling places insures an extension of the Holy Spirit that lives in us, and injects a living, loving, vibrant breath into an inanimate inhabitation.

Abiding in Christ means Him inhabiting our homes.

Where do you live? Do you live in a cold, lifeless, inanimate dwelling because your own soul reflects these qualities or do you live in the House of The Lord because you have brought His warm, living, vibrant qualities into your home?

Jesus wants to abide in your heart as well as where you physically live. And just as He brings the promise of eternal life by accepting Him into your spirit, He promises a place where you can reside with Him while you mortally inhabit the earth as long as you fill your earthly home with His goodness and mercy.
